My dreads have been born!
They have come a long way and so have I.
They have come a long way and so have I.
Like most dreadheads, I have really refined my patience and inner strength as give my dreads time to grow and harden myself to the superficial judgments of strangers.
Before this photo, I split 4 dreads that were getting too big and that were sectioned strangely. One dread at the nape of my neck turned into 3 thinner dreads after I ripped them apart. Three dreads on the right side of my head were split into 2 each, making 6 instead of 3. One was so locked that I cut it with scissors (not recommended but I did it anyway!) So now those ripped dreads have regressed in maturity but it's okay! I have enough patience to wait for them to smooth out again.
I have added essential oils to my maintenance. Lavender sprays make my dreads softer. Jojoba oil works well too but makes me feel like I need a shower because it makes my roots look greasy. Tea tree oil has moisturized this dry patch I had on my scalp. I read it is good for healthy hair growth so I might massage my scalp with tea tree oil once or twice a month or so.
I also have started to realize that my dreadds get so dry because I have been wearing cotton scarves to cover them up. My pillow cases are also cotton and I suspect these fabrics are removing all the moisture from my dreads! Even though I do look good with my dread scarf:
