I am long overdue for a reflection. My dreadlcks seem to get more beautifful every day. There still are some days when I just want to cut them off, but mostly I can now wear them down in public without feeling self conscious.
I saw my extended family for the first time since getting dreads. My aunt asked who did that to my hair. I told her it was a style. I didn't expect them to understand. Most people don't say anything. Could mean they just don't care much to know me. Or I could be misinterpreting. Maybe they are looking past the hairstyle as something unimportant?
Anyway, I realized the other day how short my dreads are now! They have shrunk so much. I have loose wispy ends which make them look longer, but if they were blunted, they would barely be past my chin! They are sooo short aand it makes me excited to see them continue to change length, whether shorter or longer.
I have split more dreadlocks and have tried to fix the sectioning in the back. It is very hard to do without someone to help. I have learned a lesson too late though. SECTION YOUR DREADLOCKS REALLY WELL ON THE VERY FIRST DAY. I am paying the price with lots of loose hair and rectangular dreads and random small dreadies. I am congoing some of the smaller ones while splitting some of the bigger ones. I believe this means I have taken a few steps back but it is okay becaause I have learned so much patience. Those dreads will take longer to mature but I don't mind. I actually enjoy knowing that I still have quite a bit of progress to finish.
For a few months I was washing my dreads with Head and Shoulders and I LOVED the results. My dreads felt so soft and luscious. But I began to realize that too much H&S was not good. I just recently went back to baking soda with ACV rinses. I will probably still use Head and Shoulders once in a while as a treat. I wash every other day and that seems to work great for me. I really love them on wash days. Sometimes the second day feels dense and I generally put my hair up. I'm hoping this trend will go away with time. Also, Irarely battle dry hair anymore. Thank goodness. Or thank head and shoulders? Or maybe ACV? Who knows but whatever it is, it's working.
Also, I no longer use Lavender spray because it seemed to bother my hair. I want to try another essential oil... maybe rosewater.
I love them more everyday which speaks to the very appealing saying that dreadlocks are like wine. They improve with age. :) Cheers.
